Training with Hans Rana Sensei 5th Dan, and Glenn Riley Sensei 5th Dan

On Saturday the 30 August, Akashi Shotokan Karate Club were again visited by the talented Hans Rana Sensei 5th Dan. This time both Hans Sensei and Glenn Sensei were instructing on the same course. Glenn Sensei took the first class which ranged from grades white belt to Godan, then Hans Sensei taking the black and brown belts. Glenn and Hans Sensei showed the importance of Kihon Waza, utilising hip movement in every technique.

Many repetitions were done with students concentrating on many aspects of karate, covering not bringing the elbows out when punching, not relying on shoulder movement to create technique, not collapsing the front knee on hip rotation, keeping the back leg flexed in Hanme, maintaining the same height when stepping forward / backward, importance of Shomen / Hanme in Kata: Heian Shodan, Nidan, and Kata of choice. body conditioning, flexibility training, and Gohon Kumite.

Akashi Shotokan Karate Club would like to thank all who took part in this event, it was a great success! The club would like to thank: Selby Shotokan, Haxby Shotokan, Loughborough Shotokan, Leeds Shotokan, and many others who took time to train with us.
