Sunday February 12, FEKO National Championships

On Sunday the 12th February, we took a small squad to compete at the FEKO National Championshi ps in Sheffield. Many of our juniors were competing for their first time at this major event. All our competitors were a credit to themselves and the A.S.K.A. Our Juniors were not fazed, and they all performed to the best of their ability, with some narrowly missing out on medal placings...well done! Starting off the days successes was Megan Hodge who came 2nd in the Individual Kata event. I am sure many thought this was going to be our only medal placing for the day, until Victoria Zivits picked up a very well deserved bronze in the individual Kumite event.

Victoriaʼs opponent went on to win her category. Victoria put in a great performance with many great punching combinations. Next medal was secured by Jack Gallagher in the team Kumite event winning bronze. Jack had a great day, and his performance in the earlier rounds in the individual Kumite event were great. Tonicka Virdee, who is getting better at every competition she enters won a well deserved Silver in the team Kumite event. Tonicka regularly competes with two talented fighters who make up part of the FEKO England Squad. Shelly Collinson was next up securing a Bronze in the Individual Kumite event. Shelly drew against one of her friends who went onto winning the event. Shelly continues to do well and fought great on the day. I wish to thank everyone who supported the event, supported each other on the day, it was great to see such camaraderie.

Full list of A.S.K.A Members were: Naoto Yuasa, Mei Yuasa, Kai Yuasa, Amy Yuasa, Sam Hill, Ellis James, Chris Daniels, Lydia Kiley, Shelly Collinson, Jack Gallagher, Ellie Hodge, Tonicka Virdee, Victoria Zivits.

Congratulations to Shelly Collinson, and Tonicka Virdee who have been selected to represent FEKO at the two day International AMA event in two weeks time!

A big thank you to Nilar Than Sensei who spent most of her time as a table official on the day, not sure who planned this!
